UPI Newspictures Chooses Digital Railroad Platform for Historic Image Collection
New York and Washington, D.C. (PRWeb) March 2, 2007 -- Digital Railroad http://www.digitalrailroad.net and United Press International (UPI) http://www.upinewspictures.com announced today that UPI has chosen Digital Railroad's technology to distribute and license its Newspictures image collections.
For the first time, more than 300,000 historic UPI images are presented digitally to the photo-buying public in one online searchable archive. The images, which include current and historical events, as well as exclusive collections of public figures, can be licensed for editorial purposes.
"We are impressed and excited about the possibilities of Digital Railroad's platform and upcoming Marketplace to market, leverage and deliver our Newspictures so the world can see our prestigious collections," said Adriana Avakian, UPI Director, Marketing and Licensing. "The images have tremendous documentary value, as well as the ability to give a lot of emotion back to the public."
In addition to world events, the archives will include rights-managed images of celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Fidel Castro, B.B. King, the Rev. Billy Graham, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Raquel Welch, and political figures such as Nelson Mandela, Hillary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher and Ariel Sharon. UPI Newspictures' photographers have been the recipients of several Pulitzer prizes and dozens of industry awards.
"UPI Newspictures offers a perfect example of why we develop our technology--to give large and small archives the ability to manage, market and sell their images more easily to photo buyers," said Evan Nisselson, Digital Railroad CEO and founder. "We are honored that UPI Newspictures has selected Digital Railroad technology to digitally distribute some of the world's most important images as it enters its second century of service."
