Michael Albert,Sr. founded U.S. Railways,Inc. in 2003, and is located in Chicago. U.S. Railways, Inc., is one of the few Black-owned freight railroad intra-plant switching contractors in North America.
Intra-plant switching involves moving freight rail cars between the main railroad line and the company's property for shipping and receiving purposes. This is done by using the railroad tracks on the company's property. Many large companies use this service, such as Ford, Nabisco and U.S. Steel.
"As a small relatively new company, U.S. Railways, Inc., has less overhead than most, if not all, freight railroad switching contractors", Albert said. "Therefore, we can pass the savings on to our customers."
Albert was inspired to found the company after reading an article on a Black-owned freight transportation company in North Carolina from the 1850s. The owner, Joseph Hayne Rainey, transported freight by horse on the street railway between the Charleston wharves and the railroad depot. In 1870 Rainey became the first Black man to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Railroad transportion in North America is a very lucrative industry; there are over 600 freight railroads operating today in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, grossing $42 billion annually. Demand for freight transport is expected to jump 67% by 2020, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
Railroads transport more than 42% of U.S. intercity freight and remain the backbone of North America's freight transportation, transporting more than trucks, ships or airplanes. U.S. freight railroads are the world's busiest, moving more freight than any rail system in any other country. In fact, U.S. railroads move more than four times as much freight as do all of Western Europe's freight railroads combined.
U.S. Railways, Inc., has the structure to successfully compete in the railroad transportation industry. We have a nationally recognized Railroad Consultant, Gary Hunter(www.railroadindustriesinc.com)with over 25 years of experience, who has negotiated contracts for many of the largest railroads (e.g. Union Pacific, Burlington Northern Santa-Fe, Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation). Mr. Hunter is the principal owner of Railroad Industries Incorporated and is the only Black Railroad Consultant in the U.S. Our attorney, Thomas F. McFarland, P.C., is also nationally well-known in the North American railroad industry and has over 35 years of experience.
Additionally, we are using the services of a Marketing Consultant, Ron Murray, CEO of Straight Talk International, a marketing company based in Chicago and South Africa. Mr. Murray meets with the International Marketing Council of South Africa and is following up on contacts made on behalf of U.S. Railways, Inc.
U.S. Railways, Inc., is the "Buffalo Soldiers", the 761st Tank Batallion, WWII's "forgotten soldiers" and the Tuskegee Airmen of America's railroad industry.

Choosing A Model Railroad Building Kit
Model railroad building kits are extremely popular today. They sell in huge numbers every day because more and more people are beginning to discover the pure beauty and charm that model railways have to offer. They were initially designed to preserve the old style railroads perfectly and the scale train models actually do that. They are simply miniature versions of reality. As a result, they capture the imagination of adults and children alike. Model railroading building kits therefore seem to have a universal appeal that few other toys or models do.
World's First Matière 14.5 Metre Soil-Stabilised Precast Concrete Railway Twin Track Box Bridge
Precast concrete specialist ABM Design and Build, the UK and Ireland licensee for the Matière modular bridge system, has developed the world's first 14.5 metre span Matière box bridge. The pioneering Opti-Cadre design maximises available headroom. Able to span twin rail tracks, it is the ideal box bridge for rail projects where clearance safety margins are critical. The speed of erection of the Opti-Carde structure also greatly reduces the possession time required.
Landing A Job With A European Railway
The current job market for railway professionals in the United Kingdom and Europe is tough for those just breaking into the industry. Drivers, engineers, and others looking to stay close to home and work at a national railway are often rebuffed by the realities of the marketplace. International workers from Asia, North America, and other European nations are flooding the market with applications. Experienced rail professionals are staying on the job longer to accrue greater retirement pensions and save more money for their twilight years. In the end, the best option for young professionals looking to work in the European railway industry is to consider the international job market.
Railroad Workers Are Also Entitled To Disability Benefits

New Invention Utilizes Empty Railroad Tracks for Shipment of Freight
Railroad tracks are often unused. When these rails remain empty, an asset is wasted. Now, Rail Robot, an invention of Edmund Dechant, utilizes this resource. Rail Robot moves cargo 24/7 when trains do not use the tracks. The invention combines existing technologies to accomplish this task. For more information, visit http://www.railrobot.com
Railway Positions With Small And Large Rail Companies
One of the biggest choices that needs to be made by a young railway professional early in their career is where they want to go in the rail industry. Some rail workers want to be able to do their jobs, come home at the end of the day, and take home a decent wage. Other rail workers want to experience a wider array of experiences and keep themselves unfettered by the restraints of home. Both of these ideas, and others in between those two, have merits but it is important for a young professional to make their mind up early in their career. Their decision is essentially between working with a smaller, local railway and a large international railway.
